First Mother's Day & 1 Month Old!

Growing up my mom always told me that the love between a mother and her child is like none other. I always thought "yeah. sure mom. it's love. what could be different?!" This past month has taught me just how different that love is. Did you read that. I said MONTH! Judah is 1 month old. 1 month! How did that happen. Geez. As I celebrate my very first Mother's Day I have been thinking about my great Mama! She's my best friend, closest mentor, confidant, laughing partner, and so much more! Happy Mother's Day Mama! You deserve the world, thanks for being the greatest mother a girl could ever ask for, but most of all thanks for teaching me on a daily basis how to be a mom to my sweet boy.

Now back to this nonsense of growing. How can time so quickly speed by. How can Judah already be 1 month old?! It feels like just yesterday husband and I were at the birth center waiting for the midwife to admit us. Feeling like he was never coming out. Feeling like I would be pregnant forever!  Nonetheless, here we are, a whole month later. So much in love with our boy. Here are some awkward and awesome tidbits of the last month with Judah:

Awkward: having a midwife man handle you as she attempts to teach you how to nurse. Awkward.

Awesome: lesson from said midwife being amazingly helpful and working. We struggled with nursing, but I'm proud to say that this mama and chowhound, I mean baby, have got it down now!

Awkward: changing my sweet boy and forgetting to cover his "area". I stood there flinging his clean diaper in the air saying "oh no! No. No. No. Wait!" As he peed all over himself. Way. To. Go. Mom.

Awesome: baby is smiling. Sometimes because of gas. Most of the time real smiles. He has also started "talking" a little and making noises. It's so much fun to listen to him.

Awesome: the moment when his pediatrician says she's so proud of his weight gain. And then asks if I was feeding him whipped cream.  Why yes, we are quite awesome at this whole nursing thing now.

Awesome: watching husband with baby when he gets home from work. Definitely the sweetest moments. There's just something about watching them together that just melts my heart. They are already best buddies.

Awesome: baby is a watcher. He will sit and watch everything. Studying. I can't wait to see if he continues this as he gets bigger.

Awkward: planning your errands run around said nursing "schedule" only to end up having to nurse in the car because "someone"(--ahem. that'd be me) spent too much time wandering around the store.

Awesome: baby no longer screams during diaper changes. This may be largely due to the use of warm wash clothes instead of wipes. But hey. No screaming! :)

Awesome: when baby nuzzles his head in close to your neck and falls asleep. And all you can hear are his little snores. Greatest moments ever.

Awesome: waking up to a smiling baby. Best alarm clock on the planet.

Awkward: trying to get baby to stay awake till the next feeding and he starts yelling in between snooze sessions. So sorry neighbors. So sorry.

Awkward & Awesome: forgetting to pay your rent on time thanks to new mama brain (is that real?) only to end up having the office lady show you pictures of her granddaughter.  Grandma's are the proudest of their grand babies.

This past month has taught me that the love for your child really is like none other. It's a very special, unique, love that I am so thankful to be able to experience. I'm so thankful for Judah and my sweet husband. I think Mother's Day is now my favorite holiday, because even though the day is about Mom.  The whole time I will be thinking about how much I love my sweet boy and celebrating how special our lives are now that he is a part of it.

2 Wonderful Weeks of Judah!

It's hard to believe that my sweet baby boy is already two weeks old. It feels like just yesterday I was at the birth center with husband and we were holding him for the first time. How time flies! Here are some things Judah has learned at two weeks old:

- he loves to hold hands while he nurses. This melts my heart. :)

- he hates. HATES. Diaper changes. I keep telling myself that they are slowing growing on him. Someday he will love them! Maybe.

- he has started kicking is feet and legs. So much fun to watch.

- he loves his daddy.

- he is a chow hound. This boy loves to get his grub on. :)

- he has his mamas Irish temper. Dear. Oh. Dear.

- he loves cuddling. It's our favorite activity so far.

- he has found his thumbs. And he loves them!

- his favorite way to sleep is with a blanket covering this ears and back of his head. It's so cute!

Here are some things this Mama has learned in the past two weeks:

- motherhood makes you do weird things. Like digging for boogers in your kids nose without a second thought. Weird.

- when baby hates diaper changes you will do just about anything to get them done in the quickest amount of time.

- you might have a newborn if every time your baby makes a noise or face you and your spouse look at each other and say "he is so cute!" Or "I love him so much" and quickly grab your iPhone to take a picture.

- the overwhelming love for this baby boy is something I've never experienced before and it brings me to tears thinking about how much I love him.

- there is something about hearing your child cry that makes you want to stop everything and make everything better for them.

I can't imagine life without my sweet Judah. I'm so thankful for my amazing husband who I get to travel this journey of parenthood with.

Ankle Smankle.

Wow. It's been a while since my last post! Life has been crazy! Roughly four months ago I was writing this great post about husbands new toy. A motorcycle! But don't get all excited just yet. He's already had his first accident. His toy "The Beast" is totaled. His right ankle was shattered in said accident, surgery was a must if he wanted a "normal" ankle for the rest if his life. I would much rather be writing about the wind in our hair. Or even how uncomfortable the seats are. But alas. Here we are. I was out of town when the accident happened. I came home to husband standing on crutches in the middle of the livingroom. Fake smiling. Blinds drawn. He was in mourning for "The Beast". Fast forward a few months of him hobbling around on crutches. Him getting a new nickname of One Leg. Me playing taxi. Doctor visits. Physical therapy. Lots of talking about "Won't it be nice when you can actually walk" sorts of things and getting X-rays for the gazillionth time and here we are today. On our first visit a nurse said "welcome. You just joined the flock. You're gonna be around here for a while. " o happy day. Looking forward to longer calling husband "One Leg!"

Frosty Mug

Over the weekend, husband and I made a stop at the 'ol Goodwill. You never know what you'll find there! I was wandering around and and found myself in the kitchenwares. Weird, I KNOW! Then I stumbled on these mugs, they reminded me of my uncle. He use to drink milk out of frosty mugs, and I always thought that was so cool! Thus, said mugs came home with us, and after a quick run through the rain locker they went into the freezer. And do you know what we enjoyed tonight.... Root beer in frosty mugs. Quite possibly the nearest thing to heaven. It was truly amazing. I love frosty mugs. Thanks Uncle.

Fiddle Faddle

I love technology, I truly do.  But more than that, I love being spoiled by my wonderful husband!  We saved up for the iPad 2 not knowing when the "New iPad" was coming out, and when we were ready to take the plunge, there she was... the new one for the previous price of the 2.  Needless to say, we went with the new one!  You know what is amazing... all the things it can do.. I'm seriously shocked that it doesn't make breakfast and brush my hair, it's that amazing!  I'm determined to figure out how to use this thing like a professional, until then if you were sitting with me in my living room you would randomly hear "Oh Fiddle Faddle!" as I confusingly stare at this wonderful contraption.

Time...

It's almost Spring people! And I'm still longing for Winter... I must be sick..But not just any kind of Winter-- a freezing, cold, snowy kind of Winter.  Hopefully these beautiful flowers will help me feel more in the "mood," but then again we're losing a whole precious hour of sleep tomorrow... Daylight Savings time should be outlawed. Just sayin'!

Awkward & Awesome Thursday!

Awkward:
* Going to Starbucks in the morning to grab a hot tea and also ordering a cake pop at oh.. 9:00 in the morning.  How do these things happen!
* Being so excited about the next day that you have a hard time sleeping, and wake up WAY TO EARLY, just laying there... staring at husband... waiting... and waiting... until he finally wakes up!  You'd think we were going to Disney and I was 5 years old.
* Ordering an extra special gift for myself online and having to re-route myself back to my shopping cart 900 millions times because I was so excited I couldn't control my fingers!
* Having a purse addiction... it's a serious problem... oh and shoes... purses & shoes.. oh dear.

Awesome:
* Starbucks!! Don't get me wrong, when I'm on the East Coast, I'm Dunkin all the way... but when in Rome San Diego! I love me some Chia Tea Lattes and cake pops obviously!
* That handsome little fur-muffin up there at the top, my Squigmen! He's just awesome and the bestest little buddy around.
* Husband is getting a new "toy" and I'll be posting about that NEXT WEEK!
*Deciding on skateboard or roller skates... the decision is made people!
